London moving parking costs and notice periods

Plan the parking before the van arrives. Compare nine councils, spot domestic removal concessions and work backwards from your moving date without confusing working days with calendar days.

Sources checked 21 October 2026. This is a selected comparison of nine London councils, not all boroughs. It covers council parking bay suspensions for moves. Private estates, red routes, loading exemptions and parking dispensations need their own checks.

Prices are quoted in their published units. A per space fee, an administration fee and a whole bay price are not interchangeable. These are planning references, not confirmed bookings.

NewhamPublished termsOfficial sourceChecked At least 10 working days. Shorter notice may be rejected.£23 per bay per day plus £25 administration. One bay for one day totals £48.This resident route allows up to three spaces in permit holder or shared use bays in the applicant’s Residential Parking Zone. Richmond upon ThamesSource conflict to confirmOfficial sourceChecked The same page states both 10 working days and 7 working days. Confirm with the council.£160.80 administration plus a zone dependent daily bay rate of £13.60, £34.10 or £53.10.The introductory notice and application section disagree, so no planning date is calculated. Allow the longer period while confirming. Charges apply seven days a week. Approved vehicles need the issued dispensation notice. The council says it does not move unauthorised vehicles.
Tower HamletsPublished termsOfficial sourceSupporting official sourceChecked At least 7 working days, with full payment received at least 7 working days before the start.£200 application plus £90 per bay per day. One bay for one day totals £290.More than ten spaces or a suspension longer than two weeks needs extra notice. Exceptional emergency bookings need prior agreement. A suspension does not guarantee that illegally parked vehicles will be cleared.
Waltham ForestPublished termsOfficial sourceSupporting official sourceChecked At least 14 days in the linked suspension terms. Payment must be made at least 10 days before the start.Domestic removals: £120 application only for the first day. Ordinary tariff adds £100 per five metre bay per day.Further removal days add the bay charge. The five to seven days mentioned on the main page is advance warning to street users, not the application notice. A parking dispensation has a separate 14 day application period and does not reserve a space.

Before you apply

Identify the authority and the exact bay

Record the street, building number, bay type, map and required length. A borough postcode does not prove that the council manages the street. TfL manages red routes and private estates may have a separate process.

Choose the right permission

A suspension reserves specified bay space subject to approval and enforcement. A dispensation can permit a vehicle to wait under defined restrictions but does not reserve a space. Continuous loading rules are a separate question.

Put the correct vehicle on the approval

Confirm which party applies and pays. Supply every authorised registration, dates, operating hours and an access contact. Check the issued documents before relying on them. An application receipt is not approval.

Plan for an obstruction

Some councils explicitly cannot guarantee a clear bay or the removal of another vehicle. Save the council enforcement contact and agree an alternative loading plan with your mover. Do not reserve public space with household objects.

Sources and method

What we checked

We reviewed current council service pages, fee pages, booking instructions and linked terms on 21 October 2026. Each row links to its evidence. We have not applied for permission or confirmed a quote by telephone. Concessions belong to their stated purpose and applicant category.

How the planning date works

Choose your council and moving date. We count backwards by the displayed standard notice, add one extra day of the same type as a planning buffer, then move a weekend or bank holiday result to the previous working day. Working day counts exclude Saturdays, Sundays and the published England and Wales bank holidays. The moving date and application date are excluded from the count. This is our conservative planning aid, not a council deadline or approval promise.

Different bays and conflicting sources

Islington and Kensington and Chelsea use different notice periods for different bays; the planner uses the longer standard resident period. Where a source says days without saying working days, we treat those as calendar days for this planning aid. Richmond’s inconsistent notice has no numeric result. Hackney’s administration wording conflicts with its example table, so no settled moving price is exported.

Bank holiday coverage and updates

The bundled GOV.UK England and Wales bank holiday list was checked on 21 October 2026. The tool accepts moving dates in 2026 to 2028 and refuses results outside its covered holiday years. Council rules can change sooner than holiday dates. Recheck the official booking page before applying; this tool does not check availability or submission cut off times.
